Yulla Kanda Trek: Explore the Highest Krishna Temple in India with Stunning Kinnaur Views

Yulla Kanda Trek: Yulla Kanda Trek in Kinnaur (Himachal Pradesh) is a beautiful blend of adventure, nature and spirituality. Popular among travelers seeking peaceful mountain escapes, this trek is known for its stunning Kinnaur views and the world’s highest Lord Krishna Temple located beside a lake. It is one of the most spiritual trekking destinations in India.

Where is Yulla Kanda Located?

Yulla Kanda sits at about 3,895 meters in the Rora Valley of Kinnaur district. The nearest village is Urni, and the trekking route begins from Yulla Khas, a quiet and culturally rich village famous for Kinnauri apples. The total trek distance is around 12 km, making it perfect for both beginners and experienced trekkers.

Best Time to Visit Yulla Kanda

The trek is best done between May and October, when the weather is pleasant and the trail remains accessible. During this time, trekkers can clearly view the majestic Kinnaur mountains and enjoy the beauty of the alpine landscape.

At the top, travelers are greeted by a serene lake and an ancient Lord Krishna Temple, believed to be the highest Krishna temple in the world. The temple stands peacefully in the middle of the lake, creating a breathtaking sight that leaves every visitor mesmerized.

History and Legends

According to divine belief, the Pandavas created the holy lake during their exile in the Himalayas. Afterward, a temple was built to honor Lord Krishna. This sacred place welcomes everyone, irrespective of religion, caste, or community. The tradition is simple - devotion and love for the divine.

The region also celebrates Janmashtami with grandeur, a tradition believed to be initiated by King Kehari Singh of the Bushahr kingdom. People from nearby areas gather and walk around the lake to seek blessings and cleanse their past sins.

The Floating Cap Test

One of the most popular rituals here involves placing a traditional Kinnauri cap on the water. If the cap floats and reaches the opposite side of the lake, it is believed that the person will be blessed with a year full of happiness, success, and peace. If it sinks, it is taken as a warning to remain cautious in the year ahead.
