Siberian Birds Flock to Triveni Sangam, Uttar Pradesh

These birds, which journey from Siberia to India's wetlands during the colder months, create a stunning spectacle against the backdrop of the holy confluence.

The Triveni Sangam, where the Saraswati, Ganges, and Yamuna rivers meet, is a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus.1 Every year, thousands of Siberian birds, including various species, make their way to the Sangam and nearby wetlands seeking warmer temperatures and abundant food sources. These wetlands serve as breeding grounds, providing a diverse supply of food for the birds.

This year, the arrival of the Siberian birds coincides with the aftermath of the Mahakumbh 2025, a historic event that drew an unprecedented number of devotees to Prayagraj.

The success of the Mahakumbh has opened up new possibilities for spiritual tourism in Uttar Pradesh.3 The state government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has developed five major spiritual corridors connecting Prayagraj with key spiritual destinations like Mirzapur, Kashi, Gorakhpur, Chitrakoot, Lucknow, Naimisharanya, and Mathura-Vrindavan.
