Ram Navami 2025 Puja Vidhi: Step-by-Step Guide to Performing Puja at Home
Ram Navami, which marks the birth of Lord Rama, will be celebrated on Sunday, April 6, 2025. It falls on the ninth day (Navami) of the Shukla Paksha in the Chaitra month, as per the Hindu calendar. Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born during the Madhyahna period of this day, making it an especially sacred moment for worship.
Celebrated with great devotion across India, especially in Ayodhya—his birthplace—Ram Navami is not just a religious event but a reminder of righteousness, truth, and virtue. Devotees observe fasts, visit temples, recite the Ramayana, and perform puja rituals at home to seek Lord Rama's blessings.

If you’re planning to perform the Ram Navami puja at home, here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you do it with devotion and ease.
Preparation for Ram Navami Puja- Clean the Puja Area: Begin the day by thoroughly cleaning the place where you intend to perform the puja. Cleanliness is considered essential in Hindu rituals.
- Take a Bath and Wear Clean Clothes: It’s important to purify yourself before starting any ritual. Preferably wear traditional or light-coloured attire.
- Set Up the Altar: Place clean cloth on a table or platform and set idols or pictures of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman.
- Gather Puja Samagri (Items): You’ll need incense sticks, diya (lamp), ghee or oil, fresh flowers, fruits, tulsi leaves, gangajal (holy water), roli, rice (akshat), sandalwood paste, and sweets (preferably panjiri or homemade prasad).
Step-by-Step Ram Navami Puja Vidhi- Sankalp (Resolve): Sit in front of the deities and take a vow to perform the puja with sincerity. Offer water and flowers to the gods and express your devotion.
- Invocation (Avahan): Invoke Lord Rama by chanting mantras or simply saying, “O Lord Rama, I invite you to accept my devotion.”
- Offer Panchamrit: Offer Panchamrit (a mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee, and sugar) to the idol or picture of Lord Rama. After offering, keep it aside to be used as prasad later.
- Abhishekam (Bathing the Idol): If you have a small metal idol of Lord Rama, you can gently bathe it with water and then with Panchamrit. Wipe it dry with a clean cloth and place it back on the altar.
- Tilak and Decoration: Apply sandalwood paste (chandan) and a tilak made from roli on the forehead of the idol. Adorn the idol with fresh flowers and garlands.
- Lighting the Lamp and Incense: Light a diya (lamp) and incense sticks. Move them in a circular motion in front of the idol while reciting Lord Rama’s name or bhajans.
- Offering Naivedya (Prasad): Offer sweets, fruits, or whatever you have prepared as prasad. You can also include tulsi leaves and water.
- Chanting and Recitation: Recite “Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram” or read verses from the Ramayana or Ram Raksha Stotra. Devotional songs or bhajans dedicated to Lord Rama can also be played or sung.
- Aarti: Perform aarti using a diya and bell. Sing the “Ram Aarti” with devotion and joy, followed by ringing the bell to mark the conclusion of the main puja.
- Circumambulation and Prostration: Walk around the altar (parikrama) and offer your respects by bowing down (pranam) to Lord Rama.
- Distribution of Prasad: After the puja, distribute the prasad among your family members or guests. It is considered a blessing from the deity.
Fasting on Ram NavamiMany devotees observe a fast (vrat) on this day. Some keep a nirjala fast (without water), while others opt for a phalahar fast, consuming fruits and milk. The fast is typically broken after the Madhyahna puja.
Performing Ram Navami puja at home allows you to connect deeply with Lord Rama and reflect on the values he stood for—truth, compassion, patience, and dharma. With devotion and sincerity, even a simple home puja can become spiritually fulfilling. May Lord Rama bless your home with peace, happiness, and prosperity.
