According to the Hindu Panchang the festival is observed on the Amavasya Tithi of Kartik month, which is also known as Lakshmi Puja day. This year Choti Diwali will be celebrated on October 20, and the main Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) on October 21, when devotees will perform Lakshmi Ganesh Puja during Pradosh Kaal.

The five-day festival of Diwali begins with Dhanteras and concludes with Bhai Dooj. Each day carries special significance:

The most auspicious Diwali Puja Muhurat 2025 falls on October 21 during Pradosh Kaal, when Amavasya prevails.
