Trump will visit McDonald's as he offers no evidence for saying Harris didn't work there in college

Left-leaning voter engagement groups that saw a surge in support and energy after Vice President Kamala Harris replaced President Joe Biden as the Democrats' White House nominee are aligning with a key pillar of her campaign in the final stretch before Election Day — trying to turn out uncommitted voters of color.

But many of those groups are finding they still have much work to do to introduce Harris and her policies. The challenges reflect Harris' late campaign start, as well as attempts to overcome the earlier lack of enthusiasm for a rematch between Biden and former President Donald Trump. They also reflect inroads that Republicans have been trying to make in particular with Black and Latino voters.

Activists with Siembra NC, a grassroots organization that focuses on Latino communities in North Carolina, found many potential voters are willing to vote in downballot races for state and local offices while leaving the top of the ticket blank. Their feeling is that the closer-to-home races affect their daily lives, while neither Trump nor Harris addresses all their desires in a presidential candidate.

The former president has fixated in recent weeks on the summer job Harris said she held in college, working the cash register and making fries at McDonald's while attending Howard University in Washington. Trump has claimed the vice president never worked there, the latest example of his longtime strategy to seize on conspiracy theories and question the credentials of his political opponents.

Democrat Kamala Harris will kick off her 60th birthday on Sunday with two church visits in Georgia, where she plans to rally early voters, while her Republican rival, Donald Trump, spends time at a McDonald's fast food place in Pennsylvania.

Harris and Trump, who are essentially tied in the race president in the most competitive states, have sharpened their attacks in recent days, while drumming up support for early votes by mail or in person with just 16 days left until the Nov. 5 election.

The Biden administration is investing billions of dollars in clean energy initiatives and greenlighting significant offshore wind projects as it seeks to implement major climate initiatives before President Joe Biden's term concludes. The administration aims to create a lasting legacy in climate action by establishing a firm path for reducing the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Meanwhile, Trump has vowed to eliminate unspent funds from Biden's landmark climate and health care legislation and halt offshore wind development if he regains the presidency in January.

Kamala Harris slammed Trump on Saturday, labeling him “cruel” for his remarks regarding the grieving family of Amber Thurman, a Georgia mother who died after waiting 20 hours for medical treatment related to complications from an abortion pill. Harris emphasized this tragic incident in her campaign message, highlighting the negative impact of Georgia's abortion restrictions, which were enacted following the Supreme Court's 2022 decision—backed by three Trump-appointed justices—to overturn Roe v. Wade.

On the Democratic side, Vice President Kamala Harris and her allies focused primarily on tax policy, which accounted for nearly half of their broadcast TV ad spending in early October, totaling about $47 million out of roughly $95 million. Harris' campaign has also seen a decrease in ad spending related to abortion rights, which, while still significant, dropped from about 32 percent in August and September to roughly 12 percent in the first two weeks of October, states the CNN report.

In early October, Donald Trump and his allies made a significant tactical shift in their advertising strategy, directing about a third of their broadcast TV ad spending toward issues surrounding transgender health care. This marked a notable increase in focus on this topic compared to previous months. Specifically, ads related to transgender policies, categorized under “LGBTQ rights,” accounted for approximately 33% of all Republican broadcast TV advertising in the first two weeks of October, translating to over $21 million out of a total of around $66 million spent during that period, states a CNN report.

Harris reiterated her call for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict, urging action following the killing of Yahya Sinwar.

Speaking to reporters, she acknowledged the challenges in resolving the conflict but stressed the necessity of persistence. "This creates an opening that I believe we must take full advantage of—to dedicate ourselves to ending this war and bringing the hostages home," Harris said. She added, "The Middle East has always been complex, but that doesn't mean we stop trying. We can't give up."

Obama further addressed those he believes have “made excuses” for Trump’s actions, asserting that “everything a president says is serious.” He remarked that he has observed this tendency particularly among certain men who perceive Trump’s bullying and derogatory behavior as a form of strength or machismo.

Former President Barack Obama, on Saturday, slammed Trump, describing him as someone who prioritizes “nobody but himself.” This statement was made as Obama voiced his support for Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign.
