Donald Trump Jr, son of the President of the United States of America, found his account suspended from Twitter temporarily for posting "misleading and potentially harmful information" about coronavirus.
On his account, the post is no longer available and is replaced with a message that says "no longer available". It appears as though he still able to tweet, The Independent reported.
News of the suspension came from Republican strategist and ally, Andrew Surabian. According to him, the suspension was a demonstration that Twitter is a "threat to free expression" and that it was "continuing to engage in open election interference". However, Surabian also posted a screenshot that showed that the tweet had in fact been banned over accusations of misinformation, the report said.
Donald Trump Jr will not be allowed to tweet from his account for 12 hours. He is also restrained from using other features like following users and liking tweets.
A Twitter spokesperson said this was not a suspension, that it was a "temporary lockout until the Tweet is deleted—not a suspension.", Vice News reported.
The tweet that triggered this suspension was a video that had falsehoods about COVID-19. This video showed a group of people dressed in white lab coats claiming to be from an organization called “America’s Frontline Doctors.” It contained material where these people claimed masks were not needed and that hydroxychloroquine was a “cure”, the report said.
