Travelling to New Zealand? What you need to know

Information that travellers provide will be used to let them know what they need to do when they arrive in New Zealand by way of COVID-19 regulations.

The information that travellers provide will be used to let them know what they need to do when they arrive in New Zealand – whether to undergo a self-test for COVID-19 or enter quarantine-free.

Air passengers flying to New Zealand are required to complete an official Traveller Declaration.

The new online system requires travellers to upload their travel history of the past 14 days, and Covid-19-related health information such as proof of vaccination (if required), and a pre-departure test result before leaving for New Zealand.

After travellers declare themselves through New Zealand Traveller Declaration, the system will assess their information before their departure, and issue a Traveller Pass by email detailing the steps they need to take to enter New Zealand.

The information that travellers provide will be used to let them know what they need to do when they arrive in New Zealand – whether to undergo a self-test for COVID-19 or enter quarantine-free.

Passengers will need the pass, which will contain a unique QR code, to board their flights. The Traveller Pass should also be presented at Customs on arrival in New Zealand.

Here are the things to note before you travel to New Zealand:

- The New Zealand Traveller Declaration is also meant for New Zealand citizens and residents, children and infants and transit passengers.

- All travellers must complete the declaration before travelling to New Zealand.

- Travellers will be asked to show their Traveller Pass at check-in by their airline and on arrival in New Zealand.

- Travellers need to provide a negative COVID-19 pre-departure test when they submit the declaration unless they are exempt from it.

- Travellers can start their declaration 28 days before the flight.

- Travellers should submit their declaration as soon as they have their pre-departure test result so there is time to verify and review their documents before the flight.

- The pass can be printed or stored on a mobile device.

The New Zealand Customs Service has said it is ready to offer it to everyone who flies to the country.
