The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a travel advisory urging Indian nationals to avoid traveling to Syria and recommending the immediate departure of those currently in the conflict-stricken country.

"In view of the situation prevailing in Syria, Indian nationals are advised to avoid all travel to Syria until further notification," the MEA stated. "Those who can are advised to leave by the earliest available commercial flights, while others are requested to exercise utmost caution, prioritize their safety, and minimize their movements."

The advisory also called on Indian nationals in Syria to maintain contact with the Indian Embassy in Damascus, providing a helpline number for assistance: +963 993385973.

Indians in Syria Advised to Prioritise Safety

According to the MEA, approximately 90 Indian nationals are currently in Syria, including 14 individuals working with United Nations organizations. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reassured that the Indian mission is closely monitoring the situation and is in regular contact with citizens to ensure their security.

"We are closely following the developments. Our mission remains in close communication with Indian nationals to prioritise their safety and security," Jaiswal said.

Escalating Conflict in Syria

The advisory follows a resurgence of violence in Syria as rebel groups intensify their attacks. Recent offensives, including the seizure of Hama and an advance toward Homs, have heightened risks of further territorial divisions under President Bashar al-Assad's control.
