Shootout Near Sinaloa Capital Results in 19 Casualties, Cartel Leader Arrested

A shootout near Culiacan, the capital of Sinaloa, Mexico, left 19 suspected cartel members dead, while a local cartel leader, Edwin Antonio "N," was arrested. The violence occurred on October 21 when over 30 gunmen attacked soldiers, prompting federal agents to return fire. Seven vehicles, firearms, and military gear were seized. Edwin Antonio is linked to the Sinaloa Cartel faction led by Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada. Recent violence in the region has escalated since Zambada's arrest in July, with Zambada alleging he was kidnapped by Los Chapitos, a rival cartel faction, and handed to U.S. officials.
