French President Emmanuel Macron Calls For Snap Elections | Parisians Express Shock

Parisians expressed shock at the announcement on June 9 by French President Emmanuel Macron, calling for snap legislative elections for later this month after he was trounced by Marine Le Pen's far-right party in the June 9 European Union vote. "It's a bit of a bombshell," said restaurant owner Eloise Troccaz. "I'm quite surprised because we're not used to the government listening to the people," said student Laurian Laborde. Macron's decision represents a major gamble on his political future, three years before his presidency ends. If Le Pen's National Rally (RN) party wins a parliamentary majority, Macron would be left with little sway over domestic affairs.
