Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket achieved a significant milestone on January 16, completing its first test flight and sending a prototype satellite into orbit. The 320-foot rocket, named after astronaut John Glenn, launched from Florida's historic pad, once used for NASA’s early missions. Elon Musk congratulated Jeff Bezos on the success via X (formerly Twitter), with Bezos expressing gratitude. Blue Origin, founded 25 years ago, has been conducting suborbital flights since 2021 but aims to expand operations with the New Glenn rocket. The company plans up to eight launches this year, supported by a $1 billion investment in its Cape Canaveral site.
