A shocking incident on a moving bus in Maharashtra’s Pune has reignited conversations about women’s safety and vigilantism in India. A video capturing a woman thrashing a man who allegedly molested her while inebriated has gone viral on social media.
The video shows the woman delivering 26 slaps to the accused, who reportedly attempted to touch her inappropriately while seated next to her. Despite his repeated apologies, the woman’s fury did not subside until the bus conductor intervened to diffuse the situation. The woman also demanded that the bus be taken to the nearest police station, according to reports.
The Pune Mirror reported that the woman, a teacher from Shirdi traveling with her husband and son, ensured that the man was taken to a police chowki near Shaniwarwada. However, no police personnel were present at the time. After waiting for nearly half an hour, she contacted former corporator Ajay Khedekar, and police eventually arrived at the scene.

One user commented, “Best. Every woman should start doing this.” Another added, “Much needed awareness... public places are not for one who is on live alcohol dose.” However, dissenting voices argued, “I believe any law doesn’t give her a right to physically assault someone like this! She can file a complaint against him! But what she did... you can see.”
Another user reflected on the larger issue, stating, “If he truly did something wrong, he should face the police. Taking law into your own hands is unacceptable. It’s unclear what actually happened, yet people are quick to judge him and paint her as the hero. Social media can be incredibly cruel.”
