A YouTuber from Telangana landed in trouble after a video he shared on a recipe for "traditional peacock curry" went viral. A case has been registered against Kodam Pranay Kumar, a native of Tangallapalli in Siricilla district for promoting the illegal killing of India's national bird, Deccan Chronicle reported.
Although the video has now been taken down, animal activists have called for strict action against Kumar especially since it emerged that he had earlier also shared videos on cooking wild boar curry.
"A case has been registered under concerned law and strictest action would be taken against him and anyone else doing such activities," Akhil Mahajan, SP Rajanna Siricilla district wrote on X. "He (Kumar) will be sent to remand as well," he added in a separate post.
The police are currently on the hunt for Kumar.
According to Indian laws, it is illegal to own or capture peacocks in India and violation can lead to strict penalties.
2 farmers in Telangana arrested for eating peacock meat
In June, two farmers of Telangana's Vikarabad district were arrested for eating peacock meat, Times of India reported. The incident came to light after forest officials found peacock feathers lying in an open field and suspected the farmers after they were discovered missing. The bird was suspected to have died of electrocution before the accused came across it.
The farmers were eventually nabbed and during interrogation, they admitted to consuming the peacock's meat but claimed that the bird was already dead when they found it.
