Tina Dabi, the District Collector of Barmer, recently garnered attention for her reaction to an unexpected moment during a public event in Rajasthan. The occasion saw Sonu Kanwar, a local Sarpanch, deliver a welcome speech in fluent English, which impressed the audience and left Dabi visibly surprised. The video of the event has since gone viral on social media.

The event, where Dabi was invited as a guest of honour, took a notable turn when Sarpanch Kanwar, dressed in traditional Rajasthani attire, began her speech in English. Kanwar, hailing from Barmer, was seen addressing the importance of water conservation. Her proficiency in the language, especially while wearing a customary ghoonghat (veil), surprised many in attendance, including Dabi, who was captured applauding the Sarpanch’s eloquence.

The video of the incident, shared by social media user Kailash Singh Sodha, quickly went viral, with viewers praising Kanwar's language skills and her leadership. In her address, the Sarpanch remarked, “I am glad to be part of this day. First of all, I welcome our collector Tina ma'am. Being a woman, it's an honour to welcome Tina ma'am."

Tina Dabi, who topped the 2015 UPSC Civil Services Examination, recently assumed the role of Barmer's District Collector. Known for her high-profile career, Dabi’s professional journey has drawn significant public interest. She has previously served as the District Collector of Jaisalmer and was most recently the Commissioner of the Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) in Jaipur before her transfer to Barmer. Her husband, IAS officer Pradeep Gawande, was also transferred as part of a recent administrative reshuffle, taking up the post of District Collector in Jalore, about 150 kilometres from Barmer.

Her younger sister, Ria Dabi, also achieved notable success by securing an all-India rank of 15 in the 2020 UPSC examination.
