This 10-foot Christmas tree is made of gold and is worth Rs 47 crore

This, however, is not the most expensive Christmas tree in the world. That honor goes to an $11 million dollar specimen that was displayed at the Emirates Palace hotel in Abu Dhabi in 2010.

One of the world's most expensive Christmas trees has been unveiled in Germany. Crafted out of 2,024 gold Vienna Philharmonic coins (one of the world’s top-selling collector coins), the tree weighs 63 kg and is worth $5.5 million (about Rs 47 crore).

The gilded giant was created by Munich-based bullion dealers Pro Aurum. “Gold cannot be reproduced at will and retains its value over generations. The gold Christmas tree illustrates this timeless significance of the precious metal in an impressive way," said Benjamin Summa, spokesperson for Pro Aurum.

The 10-foot tall "tree" is not for sale and was put up only for display at the bullion hawker’s headquarters in Munich for several days. It was set up in honor of the company’s 35th anniversary. A representative added that the tree is simply meant to symbolise how the value of gold is evergreen.

This, however, is not the most expensive Christmas tree in the world. That honor goes to an $11 million dollar specimen that was displayed at the Emirates Palace hotel in Abu Dhabi in 2010, New York Post reported. The majestic fir was decorated with 181 pieces of jewelry and stood 43.2 feet tall, according to the Guinness Book Of World Records.

Another Christmas tree that made headlines in recent years. An 80-foot inflatable “Tree” installed in Place Vendôme might have been intended as contemporary art, but its uncanny resemblance to a sex toy caused an uproar. American artist Paul McCarthy’s creation faced widespread criticism and triggered debates over artistic boundaries.
