Football is a game of goals, and the ones who are most likely to score are forwards. We take a look at the top forwards to look out for in the upcoming season of the Indian Super League
Sunil Chhetri, Bengaluru FC
This man needs no introduction for Indian fans. Recently, Chhetri was recognised by governing body FIFA for his amazing career, and this could just be the impetus for a successful campaign for BFC.
He was below his lofty standards last season, registering only four goals and one assist in 20 games for his team.
However, as they say, form is temporary but class is permanent, and you can expect the 37-year-old Indian legend to come out all guns blazing in the ISL.
Fun fact: He is the third-highest goalscorer in international football amongst active players. The other two? Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Roy Krishna, Bengaluru FC
Partnering Chhetri up front would be exciting forward Roy Krishna. The Fijian was surprisingly let go off by ATK Mohun Bagan and BFC wasted no time in getting his signature in the summer.
Last season he wasn't at his absolute best, but still managed to score seven goals and provide four assists for Mohun Bagan.
However, apart from goals and assists, he also brings to the table a winning mentality as he was crucial to ATK's title-winning side in the 2019/20 season.
His partnership with Chhetri is going to be an exciting prospect and Bengaluru FC will surely fancy their chance for ultimate glory this season.
Greg Stewart, Mumbai City FC
Mumbai pulled off a coup in July 2022 when they announced the signing of Greg Stewart from Jamshedpur. The Scot is a powerful forward who offers more than just goals.
He had a sensational campaign last season, for Jamshedpur, winning the Golden Ball award for his 10 goals and 10 assists.
Stewart is excellent inside the penalty box but can also score from distance, having scored a stunning free-kick last season against Kerala Blasters.
Mumbai City FC have been suffering in front of goal and they might have found the answer to their problems in Greg Stewart
Bartholomew Ogbeche, Hyderabad FC
Ogbeche is an ISL veteran and was the sharpest shooter in the league last year. He banged in 18 goals and gave one assist as he led Hyderabad FC to their maiden ISL title.
He was also rewarded the Golden Boot for his brilliant performance last season, and the 38-year-old Nigerian, fondly known as 'Big Bart', will be favourites to do it all over again.
Alvaro Vazquez, FC Goa
Spanish striker Alvaro Vazquez moved to the ISL last season when he signed for Kerala Blasters. He put on a pretty good show, as his eight goals and two assists helped his team reach the final.
He earned a move to Goa in the summer of 2022, and he will look to take one step further this year. FC Goa too has stumbled in two finals, so they will be looking to the Spaniard to lead from the front.
