Rahul Kumar, MD & CEO, Red Mango, started premium frozen yoghurt brand in India. The brand is present in over 25 countries and 350 locations in India. In the last nine months, Red Mango has set up over five stores and is planning a gross revenue of Rs 8 crore; and 15 new stores by next year.
Frozen yoghurt, which is low in fat, packed with healthy ingredients and served with simple toppings, is the newest desert doing the rounds. Rahul Kumar brought Red Mango, the US's premium frozen yoghurt and smoothie brand to India. Red Mango launched its first store in January 2012. Its self-service model is in sync with its tagline - treat yourself well and sure you can.
There are six flavours of yoghurt with over 35 toppings to create your Froyo. It is priced at 99 paise per gram, you pay only for what you eat unlike other players where you pay specific price for a specific size.
"We have also introduced world renowned pro-biotic iced teas. We make heart shape waffles and we do not add high fructuous corn syrups. We serve it with yoghurt cream cheese and fresh fruits. We make sandwiches and wraps where we don’t load them with high dosage of mayo or cheese but we try and keep calorie low. We also provide organic teas and coffees, so it's a complete health food Quick Service Restaurant (QSR). In modern India, professionals who are juggling their personal as well as profession lifestyle, are always on a look out for a healthy food option but unfortunately there were very few options available so we wanted to enter into this space. Red Mango is a one-stop shop for the entire family," says Kumar.
Red Mango imports ingredients from their central manufacturing units in the US and Europe. Rahul claims that Red Mango only uses a 100 percent natural low fat, gluten free-ingredients fortified with probiotics and is the only QSR in the world that has the National Yoghurt Association and the US FDA certification to carry five friendly live and active bacteria.
"Along with the big size flagship stores, we also have two other models which is the core model and the third is the core plus model. We will focus on our core products namely the frozen yoghurt, smoothies, parfaits and world-renowned probiotic iced teas. In India we want to focus on food as well," says Kumar.
In nine months, Red Mango India has already done business of Rs 3 crore and is aiming to close the year at Rs 8 crore. With exclusive types of Ghirardelli Chocolates to offer, the most premium toppings Red Mango has also brought new flavours like Madagascar Vanilla, Sonoma Strawberry and Blueberry to India.
"We positioned ourselves in the Delhi-NCR belt. Our next goal is to position ourselves in a similar fashion in cities like Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore by the 2013 summer. We also plan to open outlet in Kolkata and Chandigarh. The company plans to garner revenue of above Rs 8 crore and the company targets a 100 percent year-on-year growth from thereon," says Kumar.
Rahul plans to open around 200 stores across India in next five year. The company is betting big on USD 50 million frozen yogurt market in India and eyes to become a number one player in the Indian F&B industry.
