A pizza delivery to a Bhandup residence in Mumbai on Monday escalated into a language row when a couple allegedly insisted that the Domino's delivery agent speak to them in Marathi, a request not specified during the order, NDTV reported. The incident at Sai Radhe building has ignited further discussion on the Hindi-Marathi language debate.
Delivery agent Rohit Lavare arrived at the couple's door only to be met with the demand: "Speak Marathi or no money."
Lavare, recording the interaction, questioned the insistence, asking, "Jabardasti hai Marathi bolne ka, par kyun (Is there a compulsion to speak in Marathi? But why)?"
The woman, separated from Lavare by an iron grille door, retorted, "Hai yahan pe aise hi (Yes, this is how it is here)."

When Lavare pressed further, asking, "Kaun bola aise (Who has said this)," he received a blunt response. "Nahi aata toh phir nahi order karne ka na. Nahi dena hai na paisa, haan thek hai, theek hai (If that was your precondition, then you should not have ordered. You don't want to pay, isn't it)," the delivery agent stated, continuing to film.
The woman objected to being recorded, saying, "Mera video nahi nikalne ka, main tumhara video nikal sakti hoon (You cannot record me, while I can)," drawing a sharp retort from Lavare: "Ye kaun sa jabardasti hai (What kind of compulsion is this)?"
As the man accompanying the woman moved to close the door, she intervened and began recording the encounter herself. The exchange continued with Lavare demanding, "Dikhao na order kharab hai toh dikhao (Show me if the food you have ordered is bad)."
Ultimately, Lavare was forced to leave the location without receiving payment for the delivery. Domino's, the pizza chain involved, has yet to issue an official response to the incident.
