Known for her headline-grabbing stunts, Rakhi Sawant is no stranger to controversy. However, her rise to fame was riddled with challenges. In the past, Rakhi Sawant has opened up about the obstacles she faced growing up, including financial troubles. She once also revealed that she worked as a waitress at Anil Ambani’s wedding to Tina Munim – a gig for which she earned Rs 50.
Rakhi Sawant was born Neeru Bheda on November 25, 1978 to Jaya Bheda. She later adopted the surname of her step-father, Sawant. In 2007, Rakhi Sawant spoke about her difficult childhood in an interview with the magazine GR8!.
Sawant revealed that when she was still a child, she started working for a caterer to earn money. It was during this time that she worked as a server at Anil Ambani’s wedding.
“When I was around 10 years of age I was working for a caterer to earn daily wages of 50 rupees and I have served food at Tina Ambani's wedding,” she revealed. Anil Ambani married Tina Ambani (née Munim) in 1991.
Rakhi Sawant also spoke about her difficult childhood where she had to start working at an early age. “In a chawl system parents don't allow a girl to go outside and play but when it comes to earning money they allow her to go ahead and do anything. That time they forget the shame and humour to the family,” she said.
