Modi's response came after the recent arrest and release of BJP member Priyanka Sharma for sharing a meme with a morphed face of Mamata Banerjee.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in West Bengal’s Basirhat to address a public meeting on Wednesday, hit out at the state’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, calling her “intolerant”. Aside from calling her intolerant, he also claimed that she is “throttling democracy”.
Exhibiting confidence over a win for his saffron party in the state, he said at the rally, “TMC [Trinamool Congress] is anti-development and anti-democracy. Bengal will vote for BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party].”
He also said that BJP will secure 300 seats and West Bengal will be instrumental in contributing to their resounding victory.
The PM then went on to take a jibe at the Bengal CM, saying, “I request Didi to not be so angry. Why so much anger?”
He was referring to the recent arrest of BJP cadre Priyanka Sharma for sharing a meme with a morphed face of Mamata Banerjee, which infuriated her.
Taking the taunts forward and referring to Didi’s penchant for making paintings, PM Modi said: “You make paintings and they get sold for crores. Why don’t you make an ugly painting of mine and present that to me after I come back to power? I will definitely not file a case against you.”
He also attacked Mamata for walking away from a televised interview about five years ago. When two Bengali students had questioned Mamata Banerjee about several policy decisions, she got angry and quit the interview after tagging the students ‘maoists’.He further added that the recent attacks on Amit Shah’s roadshow in Bengal were Didi’s planned act of revenge that she had vowed to take two days ago.
