The OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro, two of the most highly-anticipated handsets, are set to debut on the May 14, 2019. However, almost every detail of OnePlus’ two upcoming flagships – including the price of the Pro variant – have been revealed through a series of leaks and rumours.

According to recent reports, the OnePlus 7 Pro is rumoured to be priced at around Rs 50,000 for the base 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant while the 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB variants will be priced at approx. Rs 53,000 and Rs 58,000 respectively.

If these prices are to be believed, the OnePlus 7 Pro will lose OnePlus’ renowned title of “flagship killer” which it has maintained since the launch of the company’s first handset. One of the many reasons for OnePlus’ immense success was its ability to set itself up as an excellent value-for-money brand that could offer a handset capable of standing toe-to-toe with flagships from Samsung or Apple while massively undercutting them in price.

OnePlus has also taken a page out of Huawei, Apple and Samsung’s playbook by offering two different models of its flagship handset. While the OnePlus 7 may yet keep the title of “flagship killer”, its pricing structure will push consumers to the Pro devices. While consumers operating on a budget may ignore this, others will be forced to weigh the price differences with the number of compromises.

On the other hand, the OnePlus 7 Pro adopts a no-compromise approach with 2019-worthy flagship performance and new features including an OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and HDR 10+ support, not to mention UFS 3.0 storage. However, OnePlus has continuously failed to deliver in terms of flagship-grade camera performance. Despite the OnePlus 7 Pro's potential to become one of the best flagship smartphones to launch this year; the company may have lost its affordability status for good.
