Nubia has unveiled the Red Magic 3 at an event in China, and everything about it spells ‘impressive’. Although the Red Magic 3 isn’t the first gaming handset to debut this year, it does a lot to stand out from the competition, particularly Xiaomi’s Black Shark 2 and Vivo iQOO.
Let’s start by looking at the of the most impressive tweaks coming to the Nubia Red Magic 3, which comes in the form of that 90Hz refresh rate AMOLED panel. Yes, despite OnePlus stealing all the headlines for its rumoured game-changing display technology, Nubia seems to have taken the first step in providing innovative display tech in 2019. The Nubia Red Magic 3 features a 6.65-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 19:5:9 aspect ratio and 90Hz refresh rate of 90Hz with support for HDR and DC Dimming.
Performance is one of the other key features touted on the Red Magic 3. The base variant of the phone runs on the Snapdragon 855 SoC coupled with 6GB of RAM going all the way to 12GB. To complement all that raw power, Nubia has built an active cooling system with a rotating fan inside the Red Magic 3.
The company claims that the moving fan features a low rate of power consumption, utilising under 1-percent of power for an hour of continuous use. Nubia also claims that fan speed is adjustable going up to a maximum of 14,000 rpm. And, despite the active cooling system, this compact powerhouse retains an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance.
The front of the Red Magic 3 features a stereo speaker system, while a customizable RGB lighting strip sits at the back. This gaming handset also features three hardware buttons for gameplay, two touch-sensitive shoulder buttons and one that can be mapped to the rear fingerprint scanner.
The Red Magic 3 features a single 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor on the back with f/1.7 aperture, an 80-degree lens and 1.6μm pixel size, while a 16-megapixel snapper sits on the front of the device.
The Nubia Red Magic 3 runs on Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box with a few additions from Nubia. The phone also features a 5,000 mAh battery capacity with fast charging support up to 27W and Quick Charge 4.0.
