A woman in Mysuru in Karnataka was rescued by police authorities after her husband locked her up inside the house for 12 years and tortured her, an India Today report said.

Reports identified the woman as Suma, 35, who had been forced to stay indoors by her husband Sannalaiah, a dailywage labourer. The couple's two children would have to wait outside the house on returning from school, until the woman's husband came home. The woman also said that she would use a small box at home for washroom breaks.

After being rescued on Wednesday, the woman said that nobody living in and around the area would question Sannalaiah and added that she would feed the children through the window.

"It’s been 12 years since I got married. He always locked me up in the house and tortured me. Nobody in the area would question him. My children go to school. But they remain outside until my husband comes back from work. I would give them food through the window," the woman told India Today.
