Clad in her usual traditional saree and slippers, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee embarked on a morning jog in a park in Spain’s Madrid with her entourage. Banerjee, 68, shared a video of her on her sprint and had a message to her followers: "Stay fit, stay healthy."
She also wrote, “A nice jog can energise you for the day ahead.”
The video shared on her Instagram account instantly went viral, with viewers marvelling at her choice of attire—a saree and slippers—as she strode through the park.
It's not the first time Banerjee has displayed her commitment to fitness. In 2019, a video captured her running in the picturesque hills of Darjeeling, covering a 10-kilometer distance alongside her team members.
She has also frequently taken parts in 'padyatras' walking long distances during rallies in Bengal.
In another video shared by Banerjee just some time later, she showcased her musical prowess, playing a tune on the accordion in a park. She captioned the short clip, "Music is forever; music should grow and mature with you, following you right up until you die."
She played the tune of “We shall overcome” with one hand and then ended her mini session with a “thank you” for the musician holding the instrument.
Banerjee has on several occasions publicly sang and played the harmonium.
Banerjee is scheduled to meet with the President of La Liga, one of the world's most prominent professional football leagues, founded in 1929. Bengal is a football fanatic state and the meeting is likely to foster stronger sports ties between Spain and the east Indian state.
La Liga boasts a rich history and is home to some of the footballing giants, including FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Sevilla FC.
