An Indian doctor in the US has been arrested for secretly recording videos and taking pictures of children as young as two years old and adults. Oumair Aejaz, 40, allegedly placed hidden cameras in changing rooms at his residence, places of employment, and a swimming club. Aejaz, who is married and the father of two young children, specialises in internal medicine and had moved to the US in 2011 and is currently on a work visa.
The criminal activity came to light after the doctor's wife approached the sheriff's office and provided evidence against him. Aejaz is in the Oakland County Jail on a $2 million bond, CBS News reported. He has been charged with one count of child sexually abusive activity, four counts of capturing an image of an unclothed person, five counts of child sexually abusive activity and five counts of using a computer to commit a crime.
Investigators said Aejaz had hidden cameras in changing rooms, bathrooms, hospital rooms, inside closets, bedrooms and bathrooms inside residences he had access to. They added that his alleged criminal activity goes back at least six years.
Six computers, four cellphones, and 15 external storage devices have been seized. Among them, a hard drive had 13,000 videos on it. It could take up to six months for the investigators to analyse the confiscated items.
"This individual potentially is one of the worst that I've ever seen, because there's no particular category," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard told CBS News. It's not just children; it's not just women. It's not just men. It goes from a 2-year-old to a grown woman. The victimisation is so broad and the perversion is so great that we're just beginning to wrap our arms around it."
He added that Aejaz's crimes range from videos of a toddler undressing in a swim club changing room to a woman lying unconscious in a hospital bed being violated by him.
