An Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) graduate recently quit a job in London and returned back to India to "retire" in Delhi. In a Reddit post shared last week, the user listed out the reasons behind quitting the role and relocating back to India.

The user shared about graduating from IIT Delhi in 2012 and later working in an investment bank for four years. The person also shared salary details earned over the years, but opted to move back to India in mid-2023.

"I graduated from IIT Delhi in EE/CS in 2012. Worked in an investment bank as a quant for 4 years in Bangalore. Then with another investment bank for 5 years in London. Then was in Tech for ~2 years also in London. I've mostly held leadership roles in the AI/ML space in my 11 years of work experience. TC for few of the years: 2013 - 35L INR, 2016 - 60L INR, 2017 - 150K GBP, 2020 - 250K GBP, 2023 - 350K GBP."

"Mid last year I decided to move back to India. Realized I could make 2Cr+ annually. However, given how low the burn rate in India was going to be, I felt it was the best time to do something bigger with life and hang my employee hat," the user wrote.

The person spoke about having an intention to relocated in his 40s, but chose to come back sooner because of  changes to work culture in the London-based organisation, lack of faith in the economy's growth over the next decade and difficulty in finding a life partner, who would be willing to shift to India in future.

"I'd thought I would move back in my 40s, however a few things made me take the decision to move back sooner:

1.Not seeing eye to eye with my London employer due to a sudden and drastic deterioration in their culture
2.I felt the economy there was not going to do that well over the next decade whereas India should
3.I've found it difficult to find a partner in London who would be open to living in India in the long run," the user wrote.

Revealing details about his current lifestyle, the user felt there were three important priorities in life: health, relationships and wealth and the person was emphasising on health and relationships right now.
