Britain took Kohinoor from India: John Oliver in new episode of Last Week Tonight

This is not the first time John Oliver has been vocal about his opinions on the Kohinoor diamond.

In the new episode of HBO's Last Week Tonight, John Oliver sets the record straight by saying that the precious Kohinoor diamond belongs to India.

In the episode titled, US History, Oliver talks about how it is often difficult to deal with the things that one's ancestors do in the past.

Citing his experience as a British man, he says the Buckingham Palace is a place where people were executed for centuries, and is now filled with stolen jewels like the Kohinoor, a 105-carat diamond believed to be stolen from India during the British reign.

"It was presented in pretty much the same way that India was," Oliver says, adding that the British took it without India's permission.

This is not the first time John Oliver has been vocal about his opinions on the Kohinoor diamond. In a previous episode that aired in 2017, Oliver spoke in detail about the movement to return the diamond to India.

He also satirically mentions how all of Britain's greatest possessions were actually stolen from other lands, including tea and the Greek Elgin Marbles.
