American YouTuber MrBeast (real name Jimmy Donaldson) has revealed that he once received a million dollars from Elon Musk for a good cause.
MrBeast was in a conversation with the 'Lessons in 30s' YouTube channel when he revealed that Musk donated $1 million to his #TeamTree fundraiser in 2019.
In 2019, the 24-year-old YouTuber tied up with Arbor Day Foundation to plant 20 million trees, the Independent reported. He set himself a target of $20 million in fundraising to achieve the goal – but donations started drying up once he hit the $6 million mark.
"We hit like $6m in the first few days, and it started to slow down," MrBeast told the channel.
That is when Elon Musk stepped in to help him out. The world’s richest man replied to one of the YouTuber’s tweets.
"And he's just like, 'oh, this looks interesting,'" revealed MrBeast.
Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee then told the billionaire more about the tree-planting campaign.
"Marques was like, 'This is cool, you should donate,' and he was like, 'Sure, why not?'" MrBeast said. "And then Elon just donated a million dollars."
Not only did Musk help the fundraiser with his generous donation, his endorsement of the project also helped it gain more attention. Donations started flooding in and MrBeast was able to hit his $20 million goal in three months since the start of the campaign in October 2019.According to Business Insider, Musk was not the only influential person to donate to the campaign. YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki and makeup artist Jeffree Star also gave to the project.
