EAM Dr S Jaishankar attends SCO Foreign Ministers’ meeting at Tashkent

-- EAM Dr S Jaishankar said on July 29: “Participated in the SCO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting at Tashkent. Highlighted that the world faces an energy and food crisis due to disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic and Ukraine conflict. This needs to be urgently addressed.”

-- He further said: “Response required includes resilient and diversified supply chains as well as reformed multilateralism. Zero tolerance for terrorism in all its manifestations is a must.”

-- Jaishankar pointed out that he “reiterated India’s position on Afghanistan and highlighted our humanitarian support: wheat, medicines, vaccines, and clothing. Underlined the potential of Chabahar port for SCO’s economic future.”

-- The External Affairs Minister added: “Spoke of the economic progress in India, stressing the relevance of start-ups and innovation. Cooperation in traditional medicine is in the common interest of SCO members. Today’s meeting of Foreign Ministers was very useful in preparing for the Samarkand summit.”

Today India alone has 40% share in real-time digital payments all over the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, on July 29.

“India is now standing in line with countries like USA, UK and Singapore from where global finance is given direction... Today India is one of the largest economies in the world. Today a record foreign investment is coming to India,” the PM said.

He added: “The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) will become an enabler, it will support innovation and also become a catalyst for growth opportunities.”
