Durga Puja celebrations are in full flow in West Bengal and the rest of the country on the of Mahaashtami. This year interestingly the pandals have been dedicated to 'Paribartan' in other words, to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

There are themes galore this Puja - from alumunium kettles and pots to bamboo shoots, from simple moulds of clay to ribs of wood and even grass, if you are in Kolkata prepare to be dazzled by the colours and hues.

Durga Puja is a celebration of womanhood, the power of Shakti in a state ruled by its first ever woman Chief Minister. From female foeticide to dowry deaths - the travails of a woman is depicted along with the deity at the sanctum in this pandal in Mohd Ali Park.

Mohd Ali Park Chief Organising Secretary Vijay Shankar Pandey said, "Mamata Banerjee has suffered and sruggled so much herself. She has seen hard times too. We have taken inspiration from her for the theme of our pandal this year."

Mamata is also a presiding deity in some pandals. In one such pandal, the deity heralds the 'Paribartan' ushered in by the Chief Minister. The demons slayed are her political foes.

The organiser said, "We have tried to fuse Durga with Mamata, even the weapons that you see here are not regular weapons - there are scales means law and order, industry."

Mamata's magic is also lighting up the sky - her feats as railway minister and her love for Rabindranath Tagore and Vivekananda are being depicted by light artists in the city.

"I have spent months doing this work. I have found inspiration in Didi and her love for Rabidnranath and great men," said a light artist.

From idols to pandals to lights - the Mamata theme sure does have many takers.
