In the bustling streets of Palo Alto, California, an unexpected sighting has set Twitter abuzz. Satyan Gajwani, a keen-eyed observer and X user, recently shared a snapshot of a car proudly displaying the license plate 'PhonePe.'
Gajwani's tweet, directed at PhonePe's CEO Sameer Nigam, pondered, "Spotted on the streets of Palo Alto @_sameernigam @PhonePe. Does this make it a global brand?"
One user, in particular, claimed insider knowledge, stating confidently, "And I know exactly who that car belongs to." The mystery deepened until the car's owner, Gaurav Lochan, stepped forward to shed light on the situation.
In a Twitter revelation, Lochan disclosed, "It's my personal plate when I started the PhonePe US office last year. When you really believe in your company."
The incident has sparked conversations not only about PhonePe's presence in the United States.
One user humorously remarked: “QR code ke saat hota, to aur mazaa aajata (If it was with a QR code, it would have been funnier).”
The original tweet has over 28,000 views.
Founded in 2015 by Sameer Nigam, Rahul Chari, and Burzin Engineer, PhonePe is a platform for digital transactions. The company was acquired by Walmart in 2018.
