Bengaluru woman stabs husband for not taking her to Singapore, arrested: report

A Bengaluru woman, 52, was arrested for allegedly attacking her husband, 56, and stabbing him after he declined to take her to Singapore along with him, a Times of India report said.

The incident took place on Saturday afternoon when the woman stabbed her spouse with a kitchen knife. The main reason behind the man refusing to take his wife along was he felt that she was not adept at keeping the house clean.

The man, who holds Singapore citizenship and has been working in the country for 25 years, got married in 2002. He has a 20-year-old son, who has been staying with his mother in Bengaluru since childhood.

The man's wife and son would visit him in Singapore for a few days and he would also come to Bengaluru twice or thrice a year, to spend time with the family.

In September 2023, the man had taken his wife and son to Singapore and wished for them to stay there, with his son continuing his studies in the country.

The family returned to Bengaluru on January 5 and on January 19, the man planned to return to Singapore with his son. He informed his wife about not taking her along on Saturday, resulting in an argument and leading to the woman attacking and stabbing him.

"I was sleeping in the bedroom around 2.30pm post lunch. She attacked me with a knife on my head and hand. When I tried to retort, she stabbed me in the back. Later, she brought water laced with chilli powder and threw it on my face," he told The Times of India.

The father and the son pushed her out of the bedroom and locked themselves inside. They called the police and informed them about the incident.

Police authorities rushed to the spot and arrested the woman while her husband was taken to the hospital, where he got around 14 stitches for his injuries.

"The woman was kept in an NGO that night. She, however, wasn't ready to eat till Naveen came back to her. We forcibly made her have dinner. It appears she was disturbed as he wanted to take their son along with him while leaving her behind. So, she attacked him." a senior police officer said. The father and the son, meanwhile, were staying in a hotel.
