An Indie dog travelling in a BMTC bus has sparked a discussion on social media. While on the one hand, the pooch has been winning hearts with its good behaviour and smartness, on the other hand, the incident has people questioning if Bengaluru buses are safe to commute in if stray dogs are allowed to board them.
The incident reportedly happened on a BMTC bus plying from Marathalli to Indiranagar and the well-behaved dog was seen settling down peacefully on one side of the vehicle after getting a few pets from a passenger while others took videos of him.
While Moneycontrol could not independently verify the video, the dog was likely a pet. It wore a collar and appeared to want to be close to the man spotted petting him in the viral clip.
Reacting to the video, an Instagram user wrote, "It might sound crazy folks, pets are legally allowed in BMTC bus and they can travel with a half (children) ticket." Another said, "Massive respect to the conductor and driver of this bus for letting this champ travel with its companion." "I have travelled through multiple cities in India. Bengaluru so far has treated my dog better than anywhere else in India. It’s also easier to find pet-friendly flats and restaurants here compared to other cities. It definitely shows how accepting this city is," wrote a third.
Others, however, pointed out the safety hazards of allowing dogs to travel in public buses without leashes.
"Where's the leash though? it's not completely safe for small kids at all," commented a user, while another said, "Who will be responsible if it bites and seriously injures anyone?"
In a similar incident, a stray dog in Mumbai is known to take the local train regularly to commute between Andheri and Borivali. Commuters have even reported seeing the dog take the route daily without bothering any of them.
