Shark Tank India judge and People Group owner Anupam Mittal has said that on a recent trip to Rajasthan, he was "blown away" by its good quality roads and superb connectivity. He equated the condition of roads in Rajasthan to that of Mumbai and wondered why the Maximum City does not have similar facilities.
"On a road trip in Rajasthan, my ancestral home. Blown away by the quality of the roads and connectivity. Mumbai waalon ne kya paap kiya?" Mittal wrote on X.
Several X users agreed with Mittal and pointed out that several states have access to better quality roads and connectivity than the business capital of the country--Mumbai.
"Based on the people’s sentiment on social media, it seems that Mumbai has gone backward in last few years," wrote Ankush Mahajann (@ankushmahajann). "Even, Vivek Agnihotri also posted a video last weeks, highlighting the poor quality of roads in Maharashtra. What went wrong over the past few years? Could it be due to frequent political shifts and politicians changing parties like hell? Maharashtra is India business hub and a major tourist place, it should be advancing, not falling behind."
Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri on Tuesday trolled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recently for its "innovative" road and footpath designs.
He had also shared a news story on how Mumbai residents began to perform pothole pujas in a unique protest against bad roads. "It's so bad that it's funny," the filmmaker had said.
More people joined in to side with Agnihotri and Mittal. "I have lived in Mumbai for 13 years and I can vouch for the bad quality of roads from 2003 - 2016," commented Dipesh Sultania (@CapriDeep). Road in front of 101 Growel mall was repaired after (former chief minister) Devendra Fandnavis got stuck in jam."
Another X user Mohit Mangal (@mohitmangal12) said, "I am from Rajasthan and agree. No complaints with roads. Even inside city roads are as they were after rains. No water logging."
Every year, especially during the monsoon, Mumbai's crater-filled roads make national headlines. Despite efforts by multiple governments, the problem persists.
In 2022, upon assuming the role of Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde vowed to eradicate potholes from the city's roads by 2024. He asserted that the concrete surfacing of roads would be pivotal in reaching this objective. However, this assertion has failed to yield any noticeable improvements.
