Just as authorities in Madhya Pradesh move to redesign the notoriously ill-conceived Bhopal rail overbridge that had a 90-degree L-shaped turn on one section, another Indian infrastructure project has become the latest subject of internet ridicule. A flyover in Andhra Pradesh, featuring three sharp curves in quick succession, is now drawing comparisons to the infamous Bhopal overbridge, sparking a fresh round of social media mockery and concern over urban planning in the country.
The existence of such a flyover was brought to light by X users. The video was also shared by the Congress. Taking a jibe at the structure, their post declared, "Bhopal made a 90° flyover. Andhra: 'Hold my chai'," alongside an image of the perplexing flyover.

This latest viral sensation is located in Venkatreddy Palle, near Penukonda, Andhra Pradesh, close to the Anjaneya Swamy Temple, CNBC TV18 reported. Connecting to National Highway 57, the flyover features a straightforward section that abruptly bends into a sharp curve, only to be followed almost immediately by another equally tight turn.
The unusual layout has led to widespread online commentary, with one user jokingly likening it to "Temple Run, Bhopal version." Another X user, Austin Shivaji Kumar (@AustinShivaji), pointed out, "Even the entry from the road 57 is a 90-degree turn. Local traffic and infrastructure development is relatively less, but whoever gets through this bridge would definitely learn a new Pro Max unbeatable driving skill in their life."
Bhopal rail bridge to be redesignedÂ
Built for Rs 18 crore, the 648-meter-long Bhopal rail overbridge gained notoriety for its exact 90-degree L-shaped turn, a design flaw that locals quickly branded a "statue of confusion" and a definite accident waiting to happen. The earlier visuals of the Bhopal bridge had also gone viral, prompting a sustained campaign that led to authorities finally granting permission to redesign and expand the hazardous turn by three feet for a more rounded approach, NDTV reported.
The Bhopal bridge project, initially slated for an 18-month completion starting March 2023, has already exceeded 36 months due to various delays, including the shifting of electrical lines and coordination issues between government departments. Despite its intention to ease traffic, both the Bhopal overbridge and now the Andhra Pradesh flyover underscore a worrying pattern of "masterpiece" engineering fails, intensifying scrutiny on the quality and foresight of the country's urban development projects.
