Harsh Goenka gave a shout-out to fellow industrialist and Twitter user Anand Mahindra today by sharing a list of lessons that one can learn from the chairman of Mahindra Group.

This afternoon, the chairman of RPG Group, Harsh Goenka, shared a graphic on nine lessons to learn from Anand Mahindra. Mahindra, 67, is the chairman of Mahindra Group. He joined the company in 1991 and has since overlooked its expansion into several key segments. Today, the Mahindra Group has its presence in fields as diverse as defence to energy to hospitality and automobiles.

Of Goenka’s 9 lessons to learn from Anand Mahindra, the first was “Adopt a startup mindset.” This, the graphic he shared explained, means keeping your organisation as lean as possible, creating feedback loops and sharing data and insights across the company.

“Focus on women’s participation in the workforce” and “Not clinging to bad ideas,” are the next two lessons to learn from Mahindra.

“Keep up with changing times,” – as the only Indian CEO to feature on the list of Top 30 CEOs on Social Media, Anand Mahindra knows a thing or two about keeping up with the changing times. This Twitter-savvy industrialist has over 9 million followers on the microblogging platform.

“Carefully observe your setbacks” and learn from them. Take the example of Mahindra Group’s tie-up with Ford Motors to produce the Escort car, which failed. Mahindra once recalled how the failure led the company to producing the Scorpio – one of its most successful cars.

“Be a people’s person,” is another lesson to take away from Anand Mahindra and the hallmark of a good leader.

Also important is to “Find a place in the customer’s mind” – Mahindra knows the importance of connecting with consumers – and remembering that “The past is just a lesson, not a life sentence.”

Last but not least is “Reimagining our future.” The post notes how Mahindra was among the top global CEOs who emphasized on the need to rebuild the economy after the pandemic as the world moved to remote working models.
