Qualcomm has announced a new premium tier SoC for top end Android Phones. The Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G Mobile Platform includes a number of improvements over the 888 SoC in terms of AI-enhanced gameplay, streaming, photography and more.
The company says that the new chip has Snapdragon's Elite Gaming features to deliver smooth gameplay and great graphics. Compared to the 888 SoC, Plus offers a boosted Kryo 680 Prime CPU with a core clock speed up to 3.0 GHz and the 6th Generation of Qualcomm's AI Engine with up to 32 TOPS AI performance, which the company claims is twenty percent faster than the previous generation. Qualcomm also promises premium connectivity features with the new chipset and has aimed the offering towards OEMs manufacturing premium Android phones.
“Snapdragon is synonymous with premium Android experiences. Our latest flagship Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G Mobile Platform will help deliver the premium entertainment, connectivity, and gaming experiences users deserve,” said Qualcomm's Christopher Patrick, senior vice president and general manager, mobile handset business.
“We’re excited to see OEMs launch with products based on our highest performing platform,” he added.
The company said that the new chipset will be part of offerings from ASUS, HONOR, Motorola Mobility, Vivo and Xiaomi. Devices featuring the new chipset will roll out soon.
