Meta AI has become quite the talk of tech town. By integrating it into WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, Meta is putting the chatbot into the hands of billions of users. The initial benchmarks show that Meta AI is quite capable and even drew a two-word — “not bad” response from Elon Musk. There has been a lot of talk about how AI can prove ‘dangerous’ for humanity. But Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg put those fears to rest as he said that no company is anywhere close to working on models that ‘threaten’ humanity.
In an interview with The Verge, Zuckerberg said that neither Meta nor any other company is developing a model that should worry humanity. “In terms of all of the concerns around the more existential risks, I don't think that anything at the level of what we or others in the field are working on in the next year is really in the ballpark of those types of risks,” Zuckerberg told The Verge.
Meta AI chatbot is a bit different from others is that it has both Bing Search and Google Search. Considering Google has its own Gemini AI, it did raise a few eyebrows. Why would Google outsource its search to another AI assistant? It was a question that was posed to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In an interview with The Verge, Zuckerberg said that he wouldn’t have been surprised if Google had refused. “But it seems like they are building up a whole model around this, so it makes sense. It’s good for Google. It shows Google prominently and links to Google,” said Zuckerberg.
Google does have a deal with Apple where it pays the iPhone maker billions of dollars to ensure Search is the default option on Apple devices. But that’s not the case with Meta AI. “They pay Apple a ton of money for distribution. They’re not paying us. So, I think it’s good for them on that,” he told The Verge.
The Meta CEO was asked whether Meta is paying Google to use Search in its AI chatbot. Zuckerberg didn’t deny but gave a cryptic answer “There’s not a ton of money flowing either way,” he said.
This is the one thing more valuable than data in AI, says Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg
