Global AI Conclave: Swapna Bapat discusses importance of AI in Image Recognition

Swapna Bapat, VP of Product Management, Network Security, Palo Alto Networks, discussed how AI can be helpful in defense sector while addressing the Global AI Conclave in Bengaluru on December 16.

While talking about the sophisticated phishing attacks, Swapna said that it’s easier now to create a sophisticated phishing attack. "Take models, train them; you don’t need a master's degree anymore. The scale of attacks is going to be massive,” she added as she went to explain the current democratization of AI.

Swapna further discussed the expansion of attack surface and stated that from marketing to finance, all can use AI leading to an increase in the attack surface which is indeed aiding attackers.

Further, she also shed light on the role of AI in Image Recognition. “AI has been used in image recognition, but there needs to be an ability to recognize text and prevent leaks. We’re doing that,” said Swapna.

Swapna also talked about reduced response time since AI has reduced the median response time, especially in cybersecurity. She added to that by saying the time to detect has come down significantly as we are dealing with millions of attacks.

When discussing Swift Breach Detection, she stated,  "We now detect a breach in 10 seconds. The response time is down."

“Bring in AI experts, we’ve done it at Palo Alto and have seen really good results. A bank employee for instance can work with an AI expert of sorts and both parties then understand it,” said Swapna Bapat at the Global AI Conclave.
