Indian electric startup Ather Energy recently passed a subsidy given to it through FAME II to its flagship scooter, the Ather 450. By reducing the price of the scooter by Rs 5000, the company made the most advanced electric scooter of Indian origin.
The Government of India has allocated Rs 10,000 crore for the FAME II scheme, which involves setting up 2700 charging stations across every 3x3 km grid, as well as at 25-kilometre intervals along both sides of major highways.
Ather Energy stated that it is one of the first auto companies in India to design and build its scooters and charging infrastructure locally. The Ather 450 and Ather Grid will be available in Chennai in June and will be followed by more cities in the coming year.
The company is also planning to install 6500 charging points across the country, and it is expected to be operational in 30 cities by 2023. The company is offering two models, the Ather 450 and the Ather 340. While there are no significant differences between the two, the bigger 450 gets a slight upper hand.
The Ather 450 is powered by a 2.4 kWh battery, which makes 3.3 kW of continuous power, maxing out at 5.4 kW. It gives a peak torque of 20.5 Nm, which takes the scooter from 0-40 kmph in 3.9 seconds. It can hit a top speed of 80 kmph. The Ather 340 is available at an introductory price of Rs 1,09,750, while the Ather 450 can now be purchased for Rs 1,23,230.
