JK Tyre-MMS Rookie Cup 2012 karting championship ends on a triumphant note

The JK Tyre sponsored MMS Rookie Cup 2012 karting championship ended on Sunday. Mysore boy H.B. Phaneesh was the champion in the Micro Max category while Mumbai lad Arya Gandhi of Rayo Racing emerged as the winner in the Junior Max category with 206 points. Anshuman Chatterjee, also from Mumbai, won the Senior Max category. The championship was held at the newly laid 650-metre MMS-Lahiri centre in Hyderabad.

The JK Tyre-MMS Rotax Rookie Cup, comprising 10 races over two rounds, has witnessed an increase in the participation as young motorsports enthusiasts have registered themselves from all over the country in the three categories - Micro Max (age group between 7-12), Junior Max (age between 13-16) and Senior Max (16 and above). The winners of the three classes in the Rookie Cup are being rewarded with scholarship training programs under former ace driver Akbar Ebrahim.

There was also a special Endurance cup which had no specified number of laps but an hour long race wherein kids from both the Junior and Senior Max categories participated but under different weight categories. There was a compulsory stop for refuelling as well. As many as 24 karts took part in the Endurance cup with Dhruv Mohite from Kolhapur winning it and Arya Gandhi and Nanjappa finishing second and third respectively.
