A Russian company is selling a solar-powered iPhone X — here's what it costs

The company did not reveal how much time it will take to charge the iPhone X battery fully

A Russian mobile accessories maker, Caviar has released an iPhone X case which has a solar power panel at the back and it feeds directly into a dedicated battery, which can then provide charge to the iPhone X's battery with a press of the power button on the rear.

Interestingly, the case is not a separate product but is sold along with Apple iPhone X, at a whopping Rs 3,10,800 (284000 Roubles) for the 64GB variant, nearly four times the actual cost of an iPhone X.

A 256 GB version is also available at an extra cost of 15,000 roubles. The cost does not include the local taxes and customs duties.

The product named iPhone X Tesla “is equipped with a solar battery that transforms the light energy and replenishes the phone battery power with its help. This phone gets power literally from the air!”

The company did not reveal how much time it will take to charge the iPhone X battery fully.

The case, however, is bulky and increases the thickness of the phone by a considerable margin. In the words of Apple Insider, “The increased thickness from the original's 7.7mm to 16.2mm is large enough that the rear camera bump is now a recess.”

Caviar claims that the case is made of carbon fibre and even with the additional solar panel, the entire assembly is claimed to offer IP67 resistance to water and dust.

The product is a limited edition and a total of 999 such devices will be manufactured. The first of the lot is intended for Elon Musk and will feature an extra engraving of the words "Made on Earth by Humans". Tesla Roadster which was launched recently into space had the same engraving.

The company says they are inspired by "three men of science," consisting of Nikola Tesla, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, and Musk.
