The Government of India rejected mounting criticism over the handling of the case of Father Stan Swamy, an 84-year-old undertrial Parkinson’s patient who passed away on July 5, saying the concerned authorities act against violations of law and do not restrain the legitimate exercise of rights.

The Opposition leaders sought the President’s intervention in holding the concerned authorities/persons accountable for “foisting false cases” on Father Stan Swamy and his continued detention in jail, being denied bail on health grounds again and again.
