Uttar Pradesh has amended its anti-conversion law introducing severe penalties for forceful or fraudulent conversions. Over the past decade, other states such as Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Karnataka have enacted similar laws
The government will introduce a bill in this regard in the upcoming legislature session, which starts on July 3.
Speaking to reporters, Basavaraj Bommai said, "The state government is studying related laws enacted by other states and soon an anti-conversion legislation will be formulated.”
A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde issued notices to both Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh state governments on two different petitions.
