Sasikala to take over as TN CM? All eyes on MLAs meet tomorrow

The Tamil Nadu government seems to be heading for a change of guard in favour of AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala.

Sources told CNN-News18 that Sasikala may take over from O Panneerselvam, who was appointed CM after the demise J Jayalalithaa in December, on February 8 or 9. A decision in this regard is likely to be taken at a meeting of the AIADMK MLAs on Sunday, sources said.

Sources added that three top bureaucrats, including advisor to the Tamil Nadu government Sheila Balakrishnan, a Jayalalithaa loyalist, had been asked to resign on Friday night.

Sasikala had appointed on Friday former minister KA Sengottaiyan and former mayor Saidai S Duraisamy as organization secretaries, a move seen as an attempt to quash dissidents within the party. She had also announced the removal of Ambattur MLA V Alexander as AIADMK's MGR Youth Wing secretary.

Speaking to CNN-News18, AIADMK spokesperson CR Saraswathi said: “This is an official matter... We have an MLAs’ meeting tomorrow… after that some decision will be taken.”
