World No. 1 ODI batter Rohit Sharma will open for India in the first ODI of the three-match series against South Africa on Sunday, November 30. The Mumbai right-hander, who hit a half-century and an unbeaten century in last month’s ODI series against Australia, will be eager to continue that form in the series opener. With another strong outing, he’ll hope to set the tone, guide India to victory over Temba Bavuma’s side, and give the hosts a 1–0 lead. These milestones include being the fourth Indian to score 20,000 runs in international cricket and becoming the batter with the most sixes in ODI cricket. Afridi played 398 games for Asia XI, ICC XI, and Pakistan throughout his 19-year ODI career, which ran from 1996 to 2015, hitting 351 sixes. In international cricket, thirteen batsmen have amassed over 20,000 runs thus far. Rohit would also surpass AB de Villiers on the list of batsmen with the most runs in international cricket if he gets at least 113 runs. Between 2014 and 2018, ABD participated in 420 games and scored 20,014 runs overall. (AFP Image) Rohit has smacked 58 sixes in 55 matches played so far against South Africa in international cricket. He will surpass David Warner's record of hitting the most sixes in international cricket against the Proteas with a total of seven. In international cricket, he already has the record for most sixes struck against Australia (138), Sri Lanka (86), and the West Indies (88). (BCCI Photo) A century in the first ODI would put Rohit ahead in the race for the most international hundreds by an Indian opener. He is currently tied with Sachin Tendulkar, who ended his career with 45 centuries at the top of the order. Among all openers worldwide, only Australia’s David Warner has more. (BCCI Image) After Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit would be the third batter to reach 5000 ODI runs in India if he hits at least 133 runs on Sunday. In 93 innings of 94 ODIs played in India thus far, Rohit has amassed 4867 runs. Tendulkar scored 6976 runs in India over the course of his 23-year ODI career, whereas Kohli has amassed 6325 runs in 124 ODIs played in India to date. In addition, Rohit will have the opportunity to surpass the record for the most sixes hit as an opener in ODIs and reach 2000 runs in international cricket against South Africa. (BCCI Photo)
