The inadequacy of India’s healthcare system, particularly its lack of universal coverage, is well known. The further deterioration that it has suffered because of the extra demands put on it by the coronavirus pandemic has attracted global attention and a humanitarian crisis is foreseen. It is feared that a huge 400 million could fall deeper into poverty as a result of the pandemic.
