Ahead of PM Modi's visit, India's Blue Economy wins global acclaim in China

A special tasting session of Indian seafood delicacies and a B2B Buyer–Seller Meet further strengthened India–China business connections in the marine products sector.

On the eve of PM Narendra Modi's visit to China, his call that “the oceans hold the key to our future.” found echoes in the 19th World Seafood Shanghai International Seafood Exhibition 2025. This is inaugural participation by India at the Shanghai World Marine Expo, one of the largest of its kind.

India Pavilion generated massive interest in the region for ‘Make in India, Made for the World’ value added Sea Food Exports. The participation by India is meant to further expand and deepen its marine food and value added export footprint in China.

The Indian Pavilion highlighted India’s Maritime Economy Vision that is India's Blue Growth, Resilience, and Global Connectivity. The Consulate General of India in Shanghai, Pratik Mathur in collaboration with the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), inaugurated India’s participation. The delegation, led by Shri D.V. Swamy, IAS, Chairman MPEDA, comprised over 30 leading Indian seafood exporters, showcasing the diversity, quality, and sustainability of India’s marine products.

Pratik Mathur, the Consul General highlighted India’s commitment to sustainability, traceability, and modern technology in fisheries. Pratik Mathur said “Jal se Jeevan, Jal se Ajeevika, Jal se Samriddhi” captures the spirit of India’s approach. The Chairman MPEDA, DV Swamy, emphasized India’s seafood diversity and the rising global demand for shrimp, tuna, and value-added aquaculture products. He invited Chinese partners to explore technology collaboration in areas such as smart aquaculture, cold-chain, and digital supply chain systems, noting India’s target to raise seafood exports from USD 8 billion to USD 12–15 billion in the coming years.
