A look at India's FY23 fuel consumption
Apr 20, 02:04

Indians moved more and flew more in the last 12 months, data from Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) shows. First, consumption of petrol, a key mobility fuel, was up 13.3 percent, and hit its highest ever, based on data available up to 1998. India's increased economic activity post the pandemic has led to this boost. The higher consumption is despite petrol selling above the Rs 100 per litre mark for all of FY23 in three cities – Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. A similar trend played out in the consumption of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), up 47 percent, inching closer to pre-pandemic consumption levels of about 8 million tonnes in FY20.
