A 29-year-old woman was rescued after she fell into a 60-ft gorge in Maharashtra’s Satara over the weekend. The woman, who has been identified as Nasreen Amir Qureshi, slipped into the gorge while take a selfie.
The woman, who is a resident of Pune’s Warje area, was rescued on Saturday amid heavy monsoon showers, News18 report said. The dramatic video of Qureshi being pulled out of the gorge has gone viral on the social media. Netizens are praising the quick response of local police and the home guards that helping in saving the woman’s life.
The News18 report said that the woman was admitted to a nearby hospital after suffering injuries from the fall. Qureshi was visiting Satara’s Borne Ghat area on Saturday when the incident took place.
The locals first alerted the authorities about the incident. Using a rope, the home guards and the locals helped the woman and brought her out of the steep gorge amid incessant rains. Some local reports say that the woman has been shifted to a private hospital and her condition is still critical.
Following the incident, Satara district administration had banned all the tourists spots frequented by the visitors till Sunday.
The incident comes weeks after a travel influence Aanvi Kamdar died after falling into a 300-ft gorge in Raigad last month. The Mumbai-based lifestyle influencer was recording a video near Mangaon’s Kumbhe waterfall when she fell in the gorge on July 16.
A mega rescue operation was launched by the police and her friends but they couldn’t save her. The body of the 27-year-old was located much later and it took six hours for the rescuers to pull back the body out of the gorge.
